Orange Star

I was so happy when I cut into this orange and saw this almost perfect little star in the center, I just had to take a photo.

I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps I'm a little out there with the food photography thing. My kids and neighbors (I often photograph food in the back yard to get the best light) think I'm quite mad. And when I recently told a chef I (almost) always photograph my dinner before I eat it, he laughed. You, know, like I was joking.

I find getting the right shot an awesome and frustrating part of food blogging. I think about it a lot. If I can't capture visually what makes this particular dish tasty and worthwhile, it really bothers me.

Anyway, this lovely orange was small, organic, and delicious! Enjoy!

I am enjoying it thoroughly, Catherine! What beautiful photos. I feel much the same way you do about photography. I take 20 to 30 shots to get just the right one. I love closeups and these of your orange are wonderful!
You're not weird! :)

The photos are great - that orange literally made my mouth water - so phooie if people think you're weird. :)

I do the exact same thing. I haven't quite reached the level of photographing everything outside, but now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense and I'm totally going to start!

omg, what a beautiful photo... I would have had to take a pic too...

So you don't feel alone, I often throw down a bed sheet on the trunk of my car to take pics.. and a month or so ago, the mailman walked up on me.. and I felt so ridiculous... so you are not alone... in the taking pictures thing.

I am right up your alley on this one. I photo everything! And yes, I do most of mine outside also for the wonderful light. My guests sometimes get anxious when the food is on the table and I am saying "Wait! Gotta get a photo for my blog" They usually just pour themselves another glass of wine!

Catherine,
I've been looking at your blog for just a few weeks now: the words are gorgeous, but the pictures even more so. Quite stunning. I'm going to have to try the outside light trick: mine have typically not been anywhere near post-worthy....

I never before noticed a "star" inside of an orange. How lovely!

That is a beautiful photo. I can taste that orange! It makes me long for winter, when oranges are at there finest here (well delivered from elsewhere)!
I have trouble getting my cooking done, while there is still natural light left, for a good photo. Maybe I will try out in the garden!
Keep the great photos coming!

Well, thanks for all your comments! I guess if I am a little nuts, I'm in very good company!

I'm also psyched to see some first time commenters. Glad the orange inspired you!

That is such a beautiful picture. It is a gray day where I live, and seeing the orange when I came to your blog was as if the sun came out. I find food to be the hardest thing to "get right" photographically (is that a word?) speaking. Some recipes I make are so delicious but I don't post them because I just can't get a good shot. I find rice and veggies to be particularly hard. I,too, take many, many pictures to get one good view. Anyhow, I enjoy your blog immensely.
